New edition of 'Employment Rights Explained' published

February 2010

The Citizens Information Board has published the 2010 edition of Employment Rights Explained. This booklet brings together information from different government departments and agencies to cover the full range of employment rights including leave from work, privacy at work, health and safety and equality at work. Each chapter includes a list of the relevant legislation, a section on where and how to enforce your rights and a case study showing how the law works in practice.

Citizens Information Services deal with over 900,000 queries annually and 13% of these are queries relating to employment rights. Since the last edition there has been an upsurge in redundancies and a rise in unemployment. We have expanded the sections on dismissal and redundancy to cover new questions on pay cuts, reductions in working hours and the Redundancy Payments Scheme. This edition also includes a new section summarising the responsibilities of employers.

Employment Rights Explained is free and is available from your local Citizens Information Centre, from the Citizens Information Board (by emailing info@ciboard.ie or calling (01) 6059000) and online in pdf format. The booklet is also available in alternative formats on request.
